Children's Advocacy for Remission and Disease Support

Mason Baker - Cofounder

My name is Madisen Baker, and I am a co-founder of the CARDS Foundation. I have been working at Boston Children's Hospital for two years as a COACH Intern in the Orthopaedic Surgery Research Department. My work has focused on understanding and treating rare skeletal conditions including camptodactyly-arthropathy-coxa vara-pericarditis and achondrogenesis type 1A. Additionally, I have researched novel methods for glioma detection, with emphasis on glioblastomas and diffuse midline gliomas. Understanding both the patient and clinical perspectives of pediatric care has given me unique insights regarding the needs of patients and families during the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Bridging the gap between research, therapeutics, and positive patient experience is of particular interest to me, which I'm thrilled to explore and improve through CARDS!

My name is Mason Baker, and I am a co-founder of the CARDS Foundation. When I was 10 years old, I found myself sitting in Boston Children’s Hospital with excruciating stomach pain. During my stay, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, which is a chronic stomach condition that inflames the stomach and esophagus and causes pain. Since my diagnosis, I have been back at the hospital many times throughout numerous flare-ups and have been on many different medications. During my time in the hospital and my time at home with flare-ups, I found myself gravitating towards playing cards, which is a simple, yet effective technique that I used to take my mind off the pain and enjoy time with my family. Also, this can help with the boredom of being in the hospital with nothing to do. To this day, that is still my go to coping method when I am having pain, or am in the hospital.
